I did the spacer mod today. It isn't possible without
removing the tank. If you follow the instructions found
on this thread - you won't have any problems. I put
screws in the two fuel rubber tubes and fitted the
clamps on the screws. I didn't lose a drop of gas.
I did remove the tubes at the carb fittings, not
at the fuel-on valve assembly. Use a clean rag when
pulling the rubber tubes away from the metal tubes.
I also ran
the gas level down before starting the project. You
have to hold the tank up while disconnecting the
turn signal electronic plug. It really is quite easy.
